Kelley Robinson
Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Maryland
I am a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), and a dedicated research advocate focused on understanding how social determinants of health impact the physical well-being of Black women. Over the past 20 years, I have cared for women and birthing individuals throughout their lives, providing comprehensive midwifery care in various settings, including birth centers. I have extensive experience in maternal and newborn care in normal and high-risk situations. My clinical background also includes routine gynecological care for individuals facing diverse issues, from managing menstrual cycles to post-menopausal care. I believe that the best care begins with establishing safe and trusting relationships with patients through attentive listening to their concerns, understanding their needs, and utilizing current evidence in a collaborative decision-making process.
My research focuses on health equity, exploring the primary causes of inadequate social health, particularly the lasting impacts of racism and gender disparities. I analyze the connections between social factors, such as housing instability, and maternal health and wellness throughout the reproductive lifespan. Understanding these connections guides initiatives aimed at improving social and physical health management and assessment and refining supportive practices for individuals during pregnancy and beyond.
I am a native of Baltimore and currently serve as an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
