Bryan Duarte, a former 8th and 9th grade humanities teacher, received their PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The University of Texas in San Antonio. They were an Assistant Professor of Educational Policy in the Department of Educational Leadership at Miami University from 2019 to 2023. They primarily use critical policy analysis in their research to examine the effects of neoliberal educational policies such as standardized assessment, evaluation, and school choice on leaders, teachers, and students in historically underserved schooling systems. Additionally, their research centers the identities and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in educational leadership and policy. They have also published on the utility of Queer theory to blur the methodological binaries through critical mixed methods and critical quantitative methodologies. Their work has been published in Anthropology & Education Quarterly, Educational Policy, Journal of Education Policy, the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, Equity & Excellence in Education, and other related venues.
